Its 2020, most of us do our daily commutes using a car or a motorbike. Those that do take public transport generally do it because they have no other alternative and SA`s Public transport is not up to scratch with the exception of Capetown.
I moved to Cape Town in December 2019 very quickly after i asked my husband for a divorce. With no car and no transport i had to quickly come up with a solution to create a safe reliable commute to work which was 40 km away. This was when the MyCiti buses were suggested and although some days can be tougher then others, the beauty i have found in my simple day to day trips has given me a different view on how beautiful simple things are.
I take buses to work every morning but my trip from Adderly to Lawley is my favorite.
We leave when the sunset has started rise at around 6:55 am and the route is around 20 mins.
Traveling through the mother city of South Africa. I have a comfortable window seat where I rest my head against the side panel. I go from 1 robot to another, I watch how life unfolds in front of my eyes. Communities awake, starting to piece together the day.
As the day breaks
I watch as florists are cutting their flowers and bunching them together. School kids playing in the park with their friends before they need to enter school. Business people walking through the streets to ensure they get to their destination on time. Vendors are offloading and piecing their stands together, prepping for another day of sales and shop owners doing a quick sweep before their first clients enter the shop.
As we go through the streets of homes, I watch mom`s waving to their children as they start their walk to school and a dad racing his son to get to the buss first.
I see emotions on the faces of South Africa. Some happy and ready to take on the day but some others were distant and barely existing.
I watch all of this as the sunrises through the mountains and the nature life as my view and absolute silence as everyone on my route is trying to clear their mind for a new day.
What a perfect view of life from this silent bus seat.
